‘Steve Perry’:Journey and the band's hit "Don't Stop Believin'"

Steve Perry, who rarely does detailed interviews, spoke to The Associated Press by phone last week, ahead of Tuesday's release of Journey's "Greatest Hits Vol. 2" and the remastered version of Perry's 1984 solo album, "Street Talk," which included the No. 1 hit "Oh Sherrie" and the ballad "Foolish Heart."
The resurgence of Journey and the band's hit "Don't Stop Believin'" may have given fans hope of a reunion, but former lead singer Steve Perry says that's probably not going to happen.His former band mates have continued on since Perry's departure 13 years ago, performing as Journey with a new lead singer, Arnel Pineda. Pineda sounds like Perry, who was once ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as No. 76 of the greatest 100 singers of all time.It's like any emotional, committed relationship. At some point, they seem to all have a shelf life and bands are no exception," he said. "Life has moved us all on in different places in our lives. . They're doing what they're doing — they have been since '98. And I've been doing what I'm doing, which is living my life and having a personal life."Perry said his signature voice, which stretches for high and long notes in many of his songs, is in good shape overall. At one point in the interview, telling a story about one of Journey's first tours, he broke into the Journey song "Feeling That Way."
Physically, though, he's battled health issues. He had hip replacement surgery 13 years ago, and has struggled with a "pretty substantial amount of arthritis that's not comfortable."
I live on anti-inflammatories," Perry said, noting that he has had some arthritis-related surgeries over the years since he left Journey.
Still, he says he's feeling good overall. He even left open the possibility of touring again — just not with Journey.Perry doesn't dwell on the band's current lineup, saying that everyone has moved on, but said he relishes the songs he did with Journey that keep getting airplay.Thirty years after its release, Journey's most memorable hit — "Don't Stop Believin'" — manages to keep getting rediscovered in new contexts. The song, which Perry wrote with Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neil Schon, has shown up in the Broadway show "Rock of Ages" (which Perry said he hasn't seen), the cut-to-black finale of "The Sopranos" and the movie "Monster," for which Charlize Theron won an Oscar for best actress. Most recently, it appears in Brad Pitt's "Moneyball."
But it has probably reached its youngest audience through the hit TV show "Glee," which has also featured other Journey hits "Faithfully" and the medley version of "Any Way You Want It/Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin.'"


Perry said he's stunned that "Don't Stop Believin'" continues to resonate with so many people.It's very shocking because now I'm getting it for 7-, 8-, 9-, 10-year-olds coming up to me, and they love that song and they've made it their song," said Perry, 62. "It's just amazing to me."He said that when he was first shown the pilot for "Glee," he wasn't sure if he wanted "Don't Stop Believin'" to be used. He said he and his former band members are careful to make sure Journey's songs are used to their standards: "There's been so many requests for silly food products over the years."
Perry said he and Journey members don't speak directly to each other about authorizing the use of songs, or much about anything else, but instead work through representatives to reach agreement.In recent years, he says he's received offers to appear on "Glee" and to serve as a judge on "American Idol," where friend and former band mate Randy Jackson is a judge. But he's turned those and other offers down because, he explains, he's not a "front-camera guy."Lately, Perry's been dabbling in film editing and writing music for a possible solo album, a challenging process after years of being away from the music business.I'm going to be recording sometime soon," said Perry.
He said he's recorded three cover songs recently, but would only disclose that one was a Beatles tune and that he has played his new music for just a few friends privately.

The film collected $1 million, not a fantastic start for the $30-million picture. But Sony hopes the movie will benefit from positive word of mouth as it expands in the coming weeks.

Lady Gaga, who famously wore a meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, will be performing at an invitation-only show in a five-star hotel in New Delhi after the race on Sunday.
Indian animal rights activists have asked pop star Lady Gaga to pose in a lettuce dress and embrace vegetarianism during her visit to India this weekend, where she will be part of the star-studded unveiling of the country's first Formula 1 race.
Lady Gaga is performing in India, and PETA activists asked Lady Gaga to forgo meat, and wear a dress made of lettuce.
If she agrees, we'll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads. It will be a full length gown, and we'll make sure it looks sexy," said Sachin Bangera of PETA India.
In a letter to the singer's publicist, PETA India said it hoped she would honor India's reverence for animals by turning vegetarian for the duration of her visit and posing for photos in a lettuce gown to promote the importance of not eating meat.
The dress would be constructed leaf by leaf on the singer's body, taking some five to six hours.
"Someone will be on hand to spray the lettuce with water so that it doesn't wilt," Bangera added.Earlier this year, in an interview with Indian chat show host Simi Garewal, Lady Gaga said she would like to soak up the local culture by taking an Indian cooking class.Excitement has been bubbling all week about the country's first Formula 1 Grand Prix, which is seen as a symbol of India's growing global clout while also highlighting its enormous disparities in wealth.

Time is followed around ! Daylight Saving Time 2011”

The other thing I cant figure out is why is it at 2 AM. I mean who gets up at 2 AM to change the clocks? If you have as many digital clocks as I do it’s a real hassle altogether and could take until at least 2:30 so the sleep we gain we actually lost changing the clocks at 2 AM.
I guess on the flip side is the summer. In the summer, daylight saving time makes the sun set an hour later, reducing electricity uses for lighting and appliances in the evening, as we can stay outside later, and bedtime comes closer to sunset. But the sun sets later in the summer anyways.  Since its a Government instigated protocol to change our clocks that may possibly explain the confusion.
Currently, the United States’ Energy Policy Act of 2005 changes daylight saving time to begin on the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November.
While there are many reasons that Daylight Savings Time is followed around the country, there are some reports that changing the time can have a negative effect on the health of the body by interrupting the circadian rhythm.
Since I cycle year round and really like riding in daylight, I never could really figure out daylight savings. First it really doesn’t seem to save any daylight. If its dark now at 6 PM it will be dark next weekend already at 5 PM when we “fall back”. Yes its true that it will be light at 7 AM instead of 8 AM but where do we save? I ride in the same amount of darkness either way?
On Sunday November 6 2011 we are told to turn our clocks back one hour at 2 AM.

Most people kept forgetting if  the clocks were supposed to go backwards or forwards that important day, so we invented the tidy sayings “spring ahead” and  ”fall back”. As well most of us can’t even remember which day we are supposed change the clocks, as the date seems to keep changing. If most of us can’t even remember the date, and which direction to turn the clocks without a slogan, maybe we should just forget the whole thing and have a holiday that day instead.
Whether it was the US founding father Benjamin Franklin or New Zealand entomologist, George Hudson, the roots of Daylight Savings Time go back many years.

DST wasn't used until World War I to conserve energy. The U.S. observed year-round DST during World War II and implemented it during the energy crisis in the 1970's, according to the Scientific American.The actual technical term for the occasion is daylight saving time, not daylight savings time as most people refer to it. Whatever you call it, many people are trying to get prepared to shift the clock back an hour on Sunday, November 6, 2011

When I’m breastfeeding he’ll lose his fat stomach.”

Cruz made a cameo appearance in Rome on Wednesday night on the eve of the Rome Film Festival. She had been in Bosnia recently filming Sergio Castellitto's "Venuto al Mondo" about a single woman who brings her teenage son to Sarajevo, where the boy's father died during the 1990s Bosnian conflict.

Sushil Kumar's staggering win on the popular Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" has transformed him into a role model for millions of aspiring youth yearning to escape from lives of poverty and find a role in India's burgeoning economy.His win echoes the plot of the 2008 Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire," whose impoverished protagonist won the grand prize on the show.government clerk from a desolate region of eastern India has become the first person ever to win $1 million on an Indian game show.
Kumar and his wife of four months wept when Indian movie legend Amitabh Bachchan, the show's host, handed them a check for 50 million rupees (just over $1 million) after the contestant gave all the right answers."You have created history. Your grit and determination has made you come so far in this show," Bachchan said.  
Kumar, the 26-year-old son of a farm laborer, told viewers his family was so poor they couldn't afford a television set, forcing him to go to a neighbor's home to watch the quiz show. Watching him tick off correct answer after correct answer, his neighbors persuaded him to try out for the show, he said.The trip to the Mumbai studio where the show is taped was his first ride in a plane and his first visit to a big city, he said.Before Kumar went on the program, which was taped Tuesday and will air next week, he earned $120 a month as a government office worker and supplemented his income by working as a private tutor in the small town of Motihari in the eastern state of Bihar.Kumar still had one of four lifelines granted on the show — the convenient double dip option that allows a contestant to offer two possible answers to a question.The show's organizers declined to reveal the final question before it is aired next week, saying only that it dealt with history.Before arriving on the set, Kumar was confident of winning $50,000 or $100,000, but the jackpot seemed like a distant dream.
He said he will also buy a new home for his wife, pay off his parents' debts and give his four brothers startup cash so they can set up small businesses.And he plans to build a library in Motihari so the children of his village will have access to the books and knowledge he so desperately craved, he said.The show first started in 2000 with a jackpot of $200,000, which was won twice. The prize money was hiked to $1 million last year.

The American Pie actress and notorious party girl, 35, admitted to TMZ photographers on Monday at LAX airport her recent marriage was never real. After tweeting about her engagement, hours later Reid tweeted a picture of her all white wedding on the island of Santorini, saying, "Just got married in Greece I love being a wife!".
Since August, Reid frequently tweeted messages of love and posted pictures of her relationship, always referring to Kehayov as her "husband". The so-called wedding has fueled confusion ever since Reid's initial announcement. Right before her supposed wedding to Kehayov, Reid's reps stated she married Danish businessman Michael Lillelund, who denied the wedding, insisting he hadn't spoken to Reid in months. Reid had two other previous engagements, one with internet entrepreneur Michael Axtmann and TV personality Carson Daly. But when paparazzi caught up with the actress after her flight yesterday and asked if she and her husband could win the Newlywed Game, an exhausted looking Reid said they "were never really married" because they never legalized their union in the United States.
